As the current explosion in technological innovations is called the 4th Industrial Revolution (4IR) our ecosystem is underpinned by innovations ranging from rapid advances in artificial intelligence and robotics to the internet of things, nanotechnology, and quantum computing.. These breakthroughs have the potential to transform our business models and industries locally, regionally and globally. But we are concerned on how can the 4IR technologies have an equally transformational impact on people and on the planet?
The challenge to Earth: It is scientifically agreed that our Earth systems are under unprecedented stress. Our model of human and economic development, developed during past industrial revolutions, has largely come at the expense of the planet. The Earth’s climate, water, air, biodiversity, forests and oceans are under increasing strain.
We want to contrinbute in making the 4IR a sustainable revolution and a real opportunity for this generation. The systems change requires to deliver a clean, resource-secure and inclusive economy can be enabled by technology and supported by public policy and investment. We want to set the course for a responsible 4IR now that will be key to tackling our planet’s urgent environmental, social, and economic challenges.
Like many other companies we are still in the early stages of grappling with the 4IR and what it means for the business and the industry we are in, but as leaders we are under no illusions as to its importance. Innovation is ranked as the top business priority to strengthen our organization and in the same time we are concerned at the speed of technological change for our growth prospect.
As an entrepreneurial and investing enterprise we are looking carefully across all the sectors at how the technologies of the 4IR can create strategic advantage for us at the opportunity for technology to be a means to deliver much broader economic, social and environmental benefit.
As explorers, inventors and innovators, we are constantly looking at how we can harness 4IR advances to help solve Earth challenges, while creating commercial advantage for our stakeholders.
